​Our 2400+ local Climate Reality Leaders represent a diverse range of communities, sectors and skillsets across the Australia and Pacific region. They undertake frequent Acts of Leadership such as presenting to their peers and communities, and speaking to the media or at large scale public events. I became concerned about global warming at age 14, through geography class. Not having children seemed like a logical response, especially when I visited NASA at age 16 and learned that humans were exploring space to find other habitable planets! A few decades on, these formative experiences make a whole lot more sense, and I’m fully embracing the call to climate action.

This has meant shifting out of working in a school (as Careers Coordinator /HR Manager) and retraining as an ecological and climate conscious coach. I am also involved in local politics and not-for-profit governance. And I have two wonderful children!

Jarren is now also studying psychological science, and conducting social psychology research projects into topics related to collective action, to help inform effective means of creating social change.

Ciaran McCormack is a sustainability education specialist with over twenty years’ experience across the corporate, government, not-for-profit, and education sectors. He is Head of Market Development for AXA Climate, an entity of AXA multinational insurance company, that creates sustainability training content. In this role, Ciaran assists organisations that need to engage and equip their employees — and value chains — at speed and scale.

Joining Calix in 2012, Michael was instrumental with the concept and design of the unique carbon negative mineral technology core to the Calix Flash Calcination process, Michael has led commercialisation initiatives of this home-grown Australian technology that is now being exported around the world to reduce environmental impact and improve processing cost and efficiency. Michael is now responsible for the global rollout of the carbon neutral Calix Electric Flash Calciner technology across multiple mineral processing fields.

Blaise is a leader in corporate sustainability and a passionate, pragmatic change agent. Her career in sustainability started as a ‘green team’ volunteer phasing out polystyrene cups in her office, and has included a 52 gigawatt hour renewable power purchase agreement (enough to power 9000 homes), four Reconciliation Action Plans, internal carbon pricing and more! She is currently the Group Director Sustainability & Corporate Responsibility at Sims Limited, the ASX-listed global leader in metal recycling and data centre circularity.

I have been running the Tenkile Conservation Alliance (TCA) in Papua New Guinea (PNG) for 20 years. TCA protects the Torricelli Mountain Range and works with the many villages that own the land and natural resources.

The Tenkile and Weimang tree kangaroos, both critically endangered, are flagship species for TCA and the protection of the area, which is presently mapped at 143,000 hectares. Most of the Torricelli's are still primary forest, with much secondary forest surrounding.

Jo is currently President of Climate Action Monaro, which covers the Snowy Monaro regional council area in SENSW and has about 60 members; a member of Farmers for Climate Action, a professional program evaluator (in international development and national programs) and a grandmother of 6 beautiful global citizens who’s futures she is keen to protect.

Jo and her hardworking committee at Climate Action Monaro have been focusing on local, State and National government political campaigns, collaborating with other groups across SENSW to publish and disseminate regional scale climate facts (see Zerose.space for fact sheets) and promoting transition to renewable energy at household scale, particularly accelerating the transition to electric vehicles (see EV-ENT.NET.AU).
