About Us
In June 2006, The Climate Project (TCP) began in Nashville, Tennessee. As a non-profit organization, its mission was to increase public awareness of the climate crisis at a grassroots level in the US and abroad. By April 2007, a growing group of 1000 volunteers from every corner of the USA was trained to present a version of the slide show as seen in the Academy Award-winning film, An Inconvenient Truth.
Since then TCP branches have been set up around the world. In doing so, Al Gore has trained more than 6000 people in the UK, Australia, Spain, India, China, Canada, Indonesia and Mexico.
In 2010, TCP merged with the Alliance of Climate Protection and this new organisation became The Climate Reality Project (TCRP).
Once personally trained by Al Gore, volunteers of the project are known as Climate Leaders. They return to their communities and stay connected with the Project. They become an interactive community with the support of a professionals who develop and revise materials for Climate Leaders to use. With an updated and regionalised slide show, Climate Leaders address their audiences and carry out their presentations and talk to their networks about the challenges and solutions available to address the climate crisis.
These dedicated, passionate Climate Leaders are the heart of TCRP.
The Climate Reality Project Australia, formed in 2006, ran in partnership with the Australian Conservation Foundation (ACF) until 2016. Since December 2016, it is hosted by the Melbourne Sustainability Society Institute.
It is also the coordinating hub for the Asia-Pacific region.
